Okay, who work? They can see a pretty much.

If it works.

cool deal broom broom broom broom low-interest John and looking out for your particular area, brother.

I Echo with a with JB said I'm we definitely need all hands on deck. This is we are able body willing worker non consumeristic Church body where we just don't seem consumed we get our hands dirty and get busy as well things. I love most about serving as a passion cure would you guys is on we're not lazy to get at it and if something needs to be done, we just do it and we don't complain about it. Just get it done and that Spirit of working servanthood is a joy to be a part of I couldn't think of I've been apart of several churches in my life, and I couldn't think of a greater group. A better group of hard-working people to lock in with and I mean that I said that to our about yourself quite a bit and not mean it I couldn't find or dream up or write the script of a better crew Rockland. So thank you all so much, but But we need more I need more of you has a lot to do especially as we grow and I believe this year's going to be here that God does kind of lift the lid off a little bit. We've been through a lot 2019. Yeah, you suck our size and stuff like that. But you know God's been faithful to us and that's all I can around and he's continually being faithful and in his time in his way. She's going to draw them self and threw some of that church and so I'm excited about it for as we grow. We going to need some help brothers and sisters to get the mission done and cheese to make it easier for people to get to Jesus. So we do so excited this year. One of the things that we are absolutely committed to here. I saw that is a walking verse by verse in the Bible. We don't Fish around through scripture and pick out topics to talk about we don't allow our personal agendas to determine what we preach on and what we teach you on concerning the Bible your ass or the Bible itself to determine the message. We believe that if you Faithfully walkthrough how the Bible came to us, which is in the volume of books not Topix has come to us and book 66 of them. We believe it if you're faithful to walking through the Bible verse by verse commits the message everything you'll find all that God needs us to know about him and how to live this life that you called us and saved us to live. We finished our books last year this year. We get to kick-off 20/20 with the new book of the Bible with walking through 1st Peter for the first first couple months. We going to be in 1st Peter. We're calling this particular journey through Peter be calling it viral. Alright, we calling it viral because of what happens when something goes viral, but something goes viral and our culture today. It spreads everywhere. It goes all over the place and it causes people to watch it to pay attention to it and to in some way and in many ways it forces them to respond to it for whatever it's worth 1st Peter. Is about what happens when God's grace or as Peter describes it the true grace of God. It's about what happens when the true grace of God goes viral spreads in the lives of God's people. The answers. The question is it affects every aspect of their lives and God's grace goes viral and our lives and impacts every aspect of our life. It changes everything about yourself change the way you see God and realize your life the way you treat others even bad people. We got kind of hurt you even when you've been scorned and hurt somebody even when you're the one who's done the hurting your changes how you interact with governments? employers as an employee your spouse and a whole host of other things that we experience in this life. Some of the things that you will find in this book and we're going to talk about how was your sales verses how God sees us don't talk a lot about identity. We going to get some of that this week is going to talk about our plans that we have for ourselves vs. God's plan God's plan verses the plans that we have for I sell please don't talk about what to do when you're all life and you're always try to creep up and pull you back to what you used to doing what you used to be in he's going to talk about that. It's going to talk about and I love this part. You don't talk about the place in the power that God's word should have and does have and our lives. You will talk about how to treat other people.

how to relate to the government as a Christian how to relate to your employer as a Christian what it means to grow in spiritual maturity as a Christian how to handle some of the most uncomfortable difficult aspects of a marriage he's going to ride down when we are a very very real way. You don't talk about what to do. This is where the rubber meets the road for us what to do when the culture price is hard against you because of your faith in Jesus.

Talk about how to relate to church leadership and other things as well. But if you could do me a favor if you can turn in 1st Peter your bibles are smartphone with whatever you have your Androids or Atari 2700. So whatever you got

nobody had a tower 27 send me a hundred. I don't know. I just dated myself. That's terrible. Okay. Alright real quick. We going to be getting verses 1 through 2, but I want you to flip over to chapter 5 and look at verse 12 real quick. He has his ladder by mentioning his ambulances, which is his Penniman the one who helped him, right? All right. So most of the biblical writers authors that have people who work Penman. All right, they were dictating while the people are rioting and sometimes the guys what kind of get some thoughts on occasion. But this is his Penny says by Savannah, so these let you know that so Venice is the one who's writing exhorting and declaring that this is so this entire letter that he wrote. He's going to give you he's going to do us a solid. Is it going to not allow us to guess what his entire letter is all about he says. Exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand for a minute. Why do I mention that? Whatever you think about 1st Peter, whatever we talk about as we go through all these topics and we walk through this is what I want you to remember and to know what Peter is going to lay out for us over. These next several weeks few months is what he's calling the true grace of God.

This point is to lay out what it truly means to embrace and to walk in and to stand firm in an opposing Culture by the true grace of God.

Not the made-up person, but the true grace of God. This book is so important one of my favorite guys in church history Martin Luther who who is highly regarded as the father or the spark of the Reformation from which the Reformation we get our name solo church this man read for Speed and this is what he says about 1st Peter. He says this book contains all that is necessary. for Christian to know that's how powerful he saw this book of 1st Peter. for a very long time on this matter has encouraged and taught many Christians all over the world who were experiencing physical and psychological and even social economic suffering because of their faith in Jesus for very long time is book of serve to provide that however, this letter is also irrelevant and it is so relevant for us and our time and are they in America specifically for Christians who find ourselves facing a different scent or different kind of challenges and suffering or Warfare? our culture Subtly, and sometimes overtly presses against and pushes against Jesus.

His values his commands the truth about him. And those of us who follow him? We struggle to live and how to sync. As followers of Jesus in a culture that is often times opposed to him and presses those ideas and presses those values and presses those principles and expectations on us. so much so I think we oftentimes just conform. When we try to blend in and we think and we live and we act just like the culture around it. Not as he's called us to live. Let's introduce first. Peter contacts is always important whenever you say in the Bible. That is the number one number two, and number three ruler context context context never study and read the Bible at kind of Turbo the Bible outside of his contacts. When you do gross errors happen your start saying things in promoting and slapping God's name on things that he did not say. Always read the Bible in this context. What is the context of 1st Peter 1 verse 1 of Jesus Christ as who's running the book Peter Simon Peter. K-phos Simon in Hebrew. Jesus gave him the name surname if I could nickname Pete there. I'm Petra The Rock small Stone when he called them. So this is who's riding. The bike is one of the original 12 apostles who were the three that Jesus was oftentimes separate these guys from rest of the 12 to bring clothes to be a leader stand out kind of guy. He was a train wreck. Peter was a train wreck and a half. He was undercover racist. Remember that Max you don't want to talk with you now, I don't touch anything unclean. I was talkin about people undercover racist. There's a hot head is cutting off ears. Cussing out little girl. That's what he was a train wreck. But he loves Jesus Jesus guy. He's the one who's riding. I'm who's riding to and tells us he says to those who are Exiles of the dispersion in pontus. Galatia, Cappadocia Asia and bithynia. All right. These are dispersed Christians or Christians who have been forced to scatter on some level and what is now modern-day turkey if you put them up for me. Kind sir. I'm so this is the area if you can see it have a circle on my laser printer to go out on me. The joy of a pastor to have a laser pointer. No way. It just went out. Okay. Well, she's a big red circle. All right, we're going to read this is who is riding to Christians who are not another area but they all put it together busy and pontus you have galatia in the middle. This is not the galatia that Paul went to a different area. There was a different part of the southern part. This is the part. He's right into up north there. And then the big big area which is Asia which Paul if you read Act was forbidden by the Holy Spirit to go to often times, I believe because God had ordained Peter to Therese a particular area, but we don't know for sure now. Modern-day Turkey Hill people who have become Christian somewhere else other than those areas and had a prior relationship with Peter. We had found themselves living as Exiles or foreigners. That's what it says. The Exile exiled are not a citizen alien. They were strangers or foreigners in their current culture and they were strangers and Aliens. Only because they weren't from there, but they were traded them for us because the identity values and way of life. With Jesus in many ways clashed with the identity values and expectations of the culture around accusing West I can go today.

Ben rock this he's all right. So that's what they are. They are seen as strangers or foreigners in this land. Not only because They are. From there, but because their ideas and values are in confrontation don't align with the coaches and values of the people that they are now living around there's a different culture that does not like these people you'll find out when when is he riding and where this is approximately 62 to 63 ad history tells us that he's probably writing from the city of not long after that. She's probably going to die. But this is this is his writing I'm why is he writing to them? Very important than what you remember this contact as you walk through the entire book I'm going to but I'm just say some legwork and understanding this this book of the Bible if you remember the context the purpose for which Peter is writing to these Christians. and then in some way Oh my goodness. My brother brought me a laser pointer. Let me see.

I just want to do the circles. That's it. That's all I want to do.

We got service. They help us out these this is important extremely important in this book and it helps us that we seek to understand it and then apply it to our lives will make the connections as to why he saying what he saying why he's calling these Christians when he's calling to an intern calling guys to live as Christians and our culture day and time in the way that reflects the glory of Christ. All right. It's very important and all kinds of pressure that cause them different degrees of grief and suffering under physical and psychological pressure. It was socially singled out and often times. It's polluted. Constantly trying to be pulled back into their former way of life. They were surrounded by a seductive non Christian worldview and their culture Satan very real very real person was constantly trying in Tempe them with various trials not to mention. They had their own internal church and family issues. That wasn't enough they were losing their social status family relationships often times. And even sometimes they were losing their livelihood all because of their faith in Jesus and because these things what happened to them his his his whatever meets the road they were beginning to doubt God. his promises and their future They were on The Struggle Bus for real if God really loves us. And God is really for me. If he's really into me then. Why are we suffering so bad all because you chose

We're suffering because they're chosen to follow him.

so Peter is Ryan to them to reassure reassure them of who they are in Christ and to show them how to live as faithful Christians do whatever they thinks to let God's grace given to Jesus spread in every area of your lies Celeste by the true grace of God to stand firm. When they were going to post all right, so why are we?

We will say this book because history has proven in scripture has taught us that the more we press in to live an authentic Christian Life. The more we get serious about our faith and living for Jesus. The scripture says all who desire to live Godly in Christ Jesus. Not real, I mean I might. Not that is possible. It says all who desire to live Godly in Christ Jesus second Timothy 3:12 will suffer persecution.

the promise

the more I sit in Council people the more I listen to conversations in the 4-year or at Starbucks the more I read people's thoughts Christmas thoughts on social media.

the more I'm convinced that we as Christians in this day and time.

Have big problem. when our culture presses up against our Christian identity our values the truth and the commands Christ and what he expects and how he expects us to live when we're pressed. We're confronted. We don't know how to think We don't know how to live. And often times but I hear is we sound just like those who don't know Jesus. We live and we look like everyone else fudgy.

because of this I believe this book is important and is vital for us to study because this is the exact same context that Peter was writing to these Christians in he'll come find it with a hostile culture. in every area and then know how to think I didn't know how to live didn't know how to respond. So oftentimes they would just do what they knew.

Going to find out that the life was in direct opposition to to Jesus his values and their identity that they're supposed to have in him.

So

I'll bring this to my text or is it one and two?

If you read the introduction just a quick glance. Is it going to look like it's a normal introduction? Normal salutation that the the biblical authors use but it's much much more than that this particular greeting as your Bible probably says it set the stage. Repeat is going to take us on our journey through his ladder these few verses and calculates everything. He's going to call at least Christian soon. He's going to call us to ask Christians in this hour to live as followers of Jesus. There's not just a greeting. Give one major Point here, which is the only point that we going to have today.

Happy folks in here like that. We got one.

Another me right? We still might be here to do it, but no.

we are one point and this is one point that he makes the line of Grace he says And a very unique way God's grace. Affects what you think about yourself?

God's grace should change how we View? Michelle

As you read what Peter says in his first two verses I don't want you to ever lose sight of the context of these Christians and what they're going through. They are going through hell y'all hell on Earth in many ways. The losing stuff people are kicking. The Flies are kicking out open the door and they're taking stuff. Can't work Moline looked at as Outsiders. hostile environment

and this is what he says. She says Peter an apostle of Jesus Christ to those who are elect Exiles of the dispersion in pontus. Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and bithynia recording. Darryl at exile's according to the foreknowledge of God the father in the Saints vacation of the spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ. And for the sprinkling with his blood. He says may Grace and peace be multiplied to you. God's grace should change and affect how we see ourselves. How did it do that for these Christians this explain? First he starts off like all of them black. Exiles of the dispersion any contacts that work at Alexa scares people

I didn't.

The word elect here in Greek is lactose. It means chosen. Picked out. Okay not voted for

it wasn't a ballad that was constant heaven for these people. pick

remains to be chosen. We can't run from this word y'all if you just looked out in your Bible to come up often chapter 2 is full of it. You read the end chapter 5. He says it again he's effing alot. How much a minute why it's so important that he says that. Call Similac.

Therapy Tomas means foreign or alien or stranger this time with you is very important language year was used to designate someone who did not hold citizenship in the place that they were currently live in which mean well which meant that they did not enjoy all of the rights and privileges as Citizens. However, as foreigners they were not necessarily expected to hold the values and the practice the customs in their current culture. Because of these differences they were often look at with suspicion and treated as threats to the establish cultural or social order. Kind of a picture of how these individuals looked at. I grew up in the Metro Detroit area and in the Metro Detroit area, there is a very strong Middle Eastern people. In fact, it is probably be the most the highest volume of Middle Eastern people outside the Middle East in the world. Why you metro-detroit, okay? If you're not from there, you're not conditioned to see certain individuals I'm saying how alarming it is. Someone who is full guard Muslim Orthodox eyes barely barely seen fully covered. All black walking towards you if you're not conditioned to understand who they are and living in this area. You will be alarmed and oftentimes as things happened in the world you begin to associate them with the radical. Islam Terrace we're having around the world and you begin to treat them a certain way your stand office in your little frayed when there's a bombing at your Airport. Where's mommy's all all around the world sometimes? Thermaline and cheetahs Outsiders not welcome not invited in. May not get the job that's offered to someone else. May not be allowed to do certain things that others can who are normal what part of the social order I say that to the best of my ability to describe how these Christians were being looked at. As threats to our social order your ideas in your values are not like ours. You're a threat to what we got going on. so as a Christian, imagine being treated that way if they see you and you bear the mark of stranger alien foreign

Peter calls him chosen exiles I will scatter dispersed to these particular places whose ideas and values is dispersion here just simply means ask at a group of people your ideas ideas and values for not in line with the culture there in the first century. Peter what is he doing? He's making it abundantly clear that he was not writing to everyone who lives in these areas. He's riding to a particular group of people. That particular group are chosen. exiles people who are particular Who are different people are chosen by God and call to stand out?

Who although? We are in the world. They're not called to be of the world. Actually Embraces the title. You are an exile you are stranger. You are foreign you are different. What makes you different? the chosen

Can you goes on to say? your chosen we going we going to ride that train your chosen.

Next prepositional phrase according to the foreknowledge of God the Father which is important.

That was the basis of God's choice. The basis of God's choice of them was his foreknowledge.

as his people this is a profound effect because it established that he has the supreme authority in their lives. He was into them. He chose them before all of these things occurred. They were on his mind and he was never a part of his plan.

This title of identity mixed with this awesome prepositional phrase would prove to be very helpful and encouraging if you were displaced in a foreign area in a culture all because you have chosen to follow Jesus and not to mention that but the culture that you're now thrust into in many ways was hostile towards you because of your choice to follow Jesus. God loves you. God is for you. God is into you the fact that God has chosen he picked you before you where you he chose you his plan his purpose was for you. that changes some things in my head when I think about man was that guy really does love me because culture is going crazy Against Me video says Hey chosen

We're on this journey changing the way we see ourselves. It goes on. God's choosing these Christians happened by the spirit of God setting them apart. They got all these people in the world. And God said you come here. You're mine for my purpose. Is extremely liberating when you're in a hostile culture against you that says everything but that about you.

By God's foreknowledge in the same location of the sphere. How does it happen the spirit of God set us apart to belong to God through the rebirth. When they trusted in the gospel. The gospel was preached in the last on to it. Goddess from scooping your mind this is important because even though our faith in Jesus is what makes God's plan come alive and real and our lives even that face that we have that latches on. The God is a gift of his grace and other words, we believe and trust in Jesus without God doing something in us first. Open up my eyes to open up our understanding in our heart even tell what time a charge to him because everything and that's part to God doing something when something or someone else. I'm good. All right. Maybe that's God saying.

This is the number one prayer request of Peter for this church, and it would be the number one prayer requested me as a pastor of this church at this moment as we walked through this letter. Undeserved freely given what does that mean? Because they use it in so many ways in the Bible.

What does Peter mean by Grace when you read his letter? He's going to talk about it a lot when you read this letter. Here's how we going to find Grace throughout this journey through first Peter. Grace is the wealth of God's riches received when you are in Christ given free of charge by the spirit as gifts through the gospel to his people. Which affects every aspect of life?

God gives wealth famous self and all his gifts by the spirit for those who are in Christ and have received Jesus through his work in the gospel that wrote the richest. God himself that he gives that's when it spreads. Will impact things and dramatically affect every aspect of your life.

He says that is what I want you to have.
